Camden County Release Records Explained
A person has left Camden County custody when the Camden County Department of Corrections ends that booking. That fact alone does not establish freedom in the community. The person may have been discharged under a court order, completed a county term, been released on parole, or moved to the New Jersey Department of Corrections, another county, federal custody, or immigration custody. Camden County operates the adult correctional facility. The Sheriff’s Office and NJDOC keep different records, so requests must go to the agency that created the record.
A live status check is best used to learn whether someone remains confined. Camden County does not publish a name-searchable web roster or a recent-release feed. Its Corrections page lists an automated inmate-status line that operates around the clock at (609) 299-1694. A missing result is not proof of release. Admissions at (856) 225-7637 processes incoming and outgoing people and can help distinguish release from transfer.
Camden County Inmate Release Types
Release language must match the actual legal event. A court decision and a jail transaction often work together, but they are not the same record. The court states the authority for release. Camden Admissions records when physical county custody ended. The following distinctions prevent a transfer or supervision event from being mistaken for an unconditional discharge.
| Release type | What it means | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial release | The case continues outside jail under court-set conditions. | Camden Admissions and the court order |
| Bail posted | Monetary conditions were met in a case where bail applies. | Admissions release record and docket |
| Time served or term expired | The responsible authority calculated the custodial term as complete, subject to other holds. | Release record and sentence judgment |
| Parole | Conditional community release occurs before the maximum term ends. | NJDOC and State Parole Board |
| Probation | A court orders community supervision through the Judiciary. | Judgment or probation order |
| NJDOC or RCRP transfer | County custody ends, but correctional custody continues. | NJDOC Offender Search |
| Detainer transfer | Another county, state, federal, or immigration authority takes custody. | Transfer record and receiving agency |
Dismissal is a court disposition, not a timestamped jail exit. It can lead to release when no other basis for detention remains. A death also ends custody but must never be called a release without that qualification.
Note: “Released from Camden County custody” is the most accurate phrase until a record confirms release to the community.
Bond-Out and Camden Pretrial Release
“Bonded out” is not a complete label for every Camden County release. New Jersey’s post-2017 Criminal Justice Reform model centers the pretrial decision on risk and conditions. Under N.J.S.A. 2A:162-17, a court generally makes a release decision without needless delay and ordinarily within 48 hours after commitment to the county jail, subject to the statute’s exceptions. Pretrial release does not mean acquittal, dismissal, or the end of the case.
Bail still applies in some circumstances. Pair the court order with the jail release transaction to establish both legal authority and the actual end of Camden custody. Court action explains why release was allowed, while the Admissions transaction shows when county custody ended.
Camden County Release Processing Hours
Admissions handles both incoming and outgoing processing at the adult correctional facility. The Camden Admissions office states that it processes bail from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays. Those are bail-processing windows, not guaranteed release hours.
Staff may still need court paperwork, identity checks, property steps, and a review for warrants or detainers. A person can also leave Camden County custody for NJDOC or another authority rather than the community. For a current event, verify the status with Admissions at (856) 225-7637 and ask whether the transaction was a release or a transfer.
Fields in Camden County Release Records
Camden County has not published a blank release form or a public field dictionary. The items below are therefore useful fields to request, not a promise that each record contains every item. Ask for an admission and release summary, booking face sheet, release authorization, and transfer record tied to one known custody episode. A narrow request makes it easier for the custodian to identify an existing record.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Committed name and aliases | The identity used for the Camden booking. |
| Booking or inmate number | The local identifier that ties records to the same stay. |
| Admission date and time | When Camden County accepted custody. |
| Committing agency and charge | Who delivered the person and the stated basis for custody. |
| Court or docket number | The related case needed to locate the order or judgment. |
| Release date and time | When the county booking ended. |
| Release authority and type | The order or event that authorized the exit. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether the person entered the community or another custodian’s care. |
| Detainer or hold notation | Whether another authority may have assumed custody. |
A booking photograph should be requested as a separate item because its disclosure analysis may differ. The Camden Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification says retained files can contain photographs, fingerprints, and identifying data. That statement shows that some records exist after the live status ends. It does not make each item open to public inspection.
Request Camden County Release Records
Use the county’s OPRA page and request portal, then direct the request to the Department of Corrections or the actual custodian named by the portal. Ask for records that already exist. A custodian need not answer questions, investigate a person’s history, or create a new report. A short date range and a known booking number can reduce delay and special-service concerns.
- Identify the person by full committed name, aliases, date of birth, and Camden booking number when known.
- State the approximate admission date and limit the request to the relevant custody episode.
- Name the admission/release summary, booking face sheet, release authorization, and transfer record.
- Ask for the release date and time, authority, type, destination, receiving agency, and detainer notation.
- Request the booking photograph on a separate line if maintained and disclosable.
- Choose electronic delivery and ask for a cost estimate before any unusual charge is incurred.
Under amended New Jersey OPRA, a noncommercial request for a currently available record is answered as soon as possible and generally within seven business days. The custodian may grant it, deny it with a legal basis, seek clarification, or request a lawful extension. Standard paper fees are five cents per letter-size page and seven cents per legal-size page. Electronic delivery normally has no copying fee, though actual-medium or extraordinary-service costs can apply.
Note: Request a date-bounded existing release log, daily report, or equivalent record rather than demanding a web feed that Camden does not publish.
Camden County Release Record Law
New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq., creates a presumption of access to identifiable government records while preserving statutory exemptions and confidentiality rules. P.L. 2024, c.16 materially amended the law effective September 3, 2024. A release-related request can still be limited by criminal-investigatory rules, an active law-enforcement need, security information, protected personal identifiers, victim or medical information, another statute, or a court order.
Juvenile, sealed, and expunged material receives special treatment. A requester can ask for segregable portions with exempt facts redacted instead of insisting on an all-or-nothing release. If access is denied, the custodian should identify the legal basis. Current procedures allow a challenge through Superior Court or the Government Records Council. No result should be treated as proof that no Camden County custody event occurred.
- Discharge
- The end of the responsible correctional authority’s custody or sentence jurisdiction.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to take or keep custody.
- Parole
- Conditional release before the maximum term, supervised by the State Parole Board.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision administered through the Judiciary.
- Expungement
- A court process that removes qualifying case records from public Judiciary databases and limits disclosure.
Camden Release Records After Expungement
New Jersey Courts draws a clear line between dismissal and expungement. A dismissal ends the charge but leaves a public court record. An expungement removes the case from Judiciary public databases and prevents court staff from disclosing it. Eligibility and waiting periods vary with the case history, so there is no sound universal timeline. The official Judiciary self-help process is the proper starting point.
Jail, court, and identification systems hold different records under different rules. An expunged case may disappear from public court access even though a searcher remembers the earlier custody event. That absence must be described neutrally. It is not a reason to seek copies from unofficial mirrors or to work around a sealing or expungement order.
The official NJ Courts expungement source illustrates how the Judiciary handles removal from public court systems.
Its process applies to court-record access and should not be confused with a live Camden County inmate-status check.
Search Camden County Released Inmates
The correct search sequence depends on where the person was last held. Camden’s automated line and Admissions cover a county-jail stay. NJDOC covers state correctional custody, including transfers from the county jail and placement at Camden residential reintegration programs. Court records show the order, judgment, or disposition. VINE supplies status and future alerts for a named person while participating agency data remains available.
- Call Camden’s automated inmate-status line at (609) 299-1694 to test whether county custody continues.
- If the result is unclear, call Admissions at (856) 225-7637 and ask whether the person was released or transferred.
- Search New Jersey VINE promptly by exact name or an identification number and check any saved alert.
- Use the NJDOC Offender Search when a state sentence, state transfer, or RCRP placement is possible.
- Check PROMIS/Gavel for the Camden Superior Court order, judgment, dismissal, or probation disposition.
- File a focused Camden OPRA request when historical proof is needed.
- Use BOP or ICE tools only when federal or immigration custody may apply.
For a very recent Camden County release, Admissions and VINE form the strongest first pair. For an older county-jail stay, combine the release transaction with the court record. State-prison release calls for NJDOC plus the Parole Board or NJDOC records. A live roster is never a complete historical release archive.
NJDOC Camden Release Offender Search
The NJDOC Offender Search Engine covers people under state corrections jurisdiction, not every person booked at the Camden County jail. Search by SBI number for the best match. When that number is unknown, use name and the available demographic filters, then test aliases and spelling variants. Confirm a match through age, SBI number, Camden as the county of commitment, sentence details, and offense information rather than relying on a name alone.
| NJDOC field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| SBI number | The most precise state identifier for searching and records requests. |
| Current facility | The state prison or RCRP placement, not necessarily the sentencing county. |
| County of commitment | The sentencing venue, which may be Camden even when the person is elsewhere. |
| Date In-Custody | The start date recorded for the NJDOC custody episode. |
| Date Out-of-Custody | The date released from NJDOC custody for a completed episode. |
| Current Max Release Date | A recalculated estimate affected by earned deductions and disciplinary additions. |
| Current Parole Eligibility Date | The current Board-calculated eligibility-related date, not a promise of parole. |
The NJDOC search is not a permanent criminal-history archive. A discharged record may not remain searchable forever. If a known state record no longer appears, use the SBI number in a focused NJDOC public-record request and check the State Parole Board separately. The NJDOC form shown below is the official state search entry.
Its fields apply to NJDOC jurisdiction and should not be used as a substitute for a Camden County jail release record.
Note: “County of Commitment: Camden” identifies the sentencing venue, not the person’s current physical location or final discharge.
Camden County Recent Release Options
Camden County publishes no identified rolling 24-hour list, 72-hour list, public roster archive, or official recent-release mobile app. The county website instead points to the automated phone system. That service answers a current-status question for one person. It does not provide a list of everyone who left during a chosen span, and the county has not stated how long a former person remains audible in the system.
For a same-day check, call the automated line, then Admissions. For a future notice, register through New Jersey VINE while the person is still in custody. For a past group of releases, request an existing daily release log, release report, or equivalent record for exact start and end times. The custodian may redact exempt fields and need not build a new spreadsheet. Readers seeking the county’s feed-specific fallback can use the Camden County 24-Hour Releases process.
Does disappearance from Camden’s status channel prove release?
No. It can reflect a transfer, spelling problem, record update, or the end of a live display. Ask Admissions for the disposition and request the release or transfer record when proof is needed.
Camden Release Orders and Court Records
Camden release research splits by court level. PROMIS/Gavel public access covers indictable Superior Court cases and can preserve disposition and sentence information after jail status has ended. A search can reveal a dismissal, judgment, probation term, amended order, or other case event. The Judgment of Conviction is the main sentence document, while a release order answers a different question.
Municipal matters may require the court that handled the case rather than a Camden Superior Court search. Federal Camden cases belong to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and are not found through PROMIS/Gavel. In every system, the court states the legal action, while the jail or other custodian records the physical movement. A Friday release order does not prove that the person exited at the same minute.
The official PROMIS/Gavel source provides the lasting court-side search path for many Camden indictable cases.
Match its docket result with Camden Admissions or the county release record to establish the actual custody exit.
Note: A court event and a physical jail exit can occur at different times, so both records serve distinct roles.
Camden County Post-Release Supervision
Parole and probation are separate systems. The New Jersey State Parole Board supervises people released on parole and certain special supervision groups. The Judiciary’s Probation Division administers court-ordered probation. A parole or probation record may establish supervision after release, but it does not supply the Camden County jail’s precise release time.
Begin a parole check with NJDOC. For a person believed to be on parole, the Board lists SPB-Public-Info-Office@spb.nj.gov and provides a separate OPRA form. Ask for a specific record such as the parole certificate, release date, supervision status, or final discharge. Probation is best confirmed through the Camden judgment or order. Individual reporting details may be protected, and a public court result does not prove where a person reports.
Note: Camden is the county of the case or residence in some records, but it does not prove a specific supervision office.
Camden Release Center Support
Camden County opened a Reentry Release Center next to the correctional facility in March 2026. The county describes it as a transition point with peer connections, private meeting space, showers, laundry, a kitchenette, identification help, and links to community services. These functions can help someone move from custody to the next stage, but the center is not an inmate search, release-status office, or source of a public release record.
The official Reentry Release Center announcement is useful for service context after a confirmed Camden County release. It should not replace Admissions, the court, NJDOC, or VINE when the question is whether release occurred.
Property After Camden County Release
The Camden Corrections Mailroom states that a confined person may release property through the mailroom. Its published service windows are 8:30 to 11:00 a.m., noon to 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Exact authority for a pickup after release, required identification, and the correct entrance should be confirmed before travel. The Reentry Release Center also lists identification assistance among its transition services.
The Camden Corrections Mailroom page is the direct source for current property procedures. A property release is not proof that the person left custody. It is a separate transaction that can occur before or after the custody event.
Note: Confirm property-pickup authority and identification needs by phone because the posted windows do not answer every post-release situation.
Getting Home After Camden Release
The Camden County Correctional Facility is at 330 Federal Street in downtown Camden, near local transit infrastructure. Camden County does not publish a family waiting area or a transportation-release policy. Families should confirm the actual exit point and any waiting instructions with Admissions instead of waiting at a secure entrance.
Current service information belongs with the transit operators. Check the NJ Transit River LINE and PATCO station information before planning a trip. A court order, bail-processing window, or VINE alert does not guarantee the exact moment a person will reach a public exit.
Camden Release Alerts and Federal Records
New Jersey VINE is a free, confidential custody-notification system for crime victims and other concerned people. Search New Jersey by exact name or identification number. Registration should occur while the person remains in custody because the person may disappear from VINE after release. Phone, text, email, mobile app, and TTY registration may require separate setup. Phone notices use a four-digit PIN to acknowledge the call. VINE is not an archived release certificate, and a transfer alert should be followed to the receiving agency.
Federal custody has separate tools. The BOP Inmate Locator can show “Released” and a release date for a federal prison record. “Not in BOP custody” is broader and can mean another custodian or no covered BOP history. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System uses an A-number and country of birth or exact biographical data. It can contain some recently released ICE records, but it is not a durable archive. If Camden County released someone to ICE, describe that transfer precisely.
Federal defendants awaiting proceedings may be tracked through the U.S. Marshals Service rather than BOP. Records requests go to the agency that held the person: BOP, ICE, or USMS. Federal FOIA rules differ from New Jersey OPRA.
Note: A federal or immigration transfer ends Camden custody without proving that the person entered the community.
Compare Camden County Release Sources
No single source answers every custody question. Use the source that owns the event, then compare it with the court or receiving agency when a transfer is possible. This division is especially important in Camden County because there is no public recent-release feed.
| Question | Best source | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Still in Camden County custody? | Automated status line and Admissions | Absence does not identify release or transfer. |
| When did county custody end? | Camden admission/release record | May require a focused OPRA request. |
| Transferred to state custody? | NJDOC Offender Search | Does not cover every county detainee. |
| What did the court order? | PROMIS/Gavel or the correct court | An order is not the physical exit timestamp. |
| Parole or probation after release? | Parole Board or court judgment | Reporting details may not be public. |
| Federal prison release? | BOP Inmate Locator | Does not cover all federal detainees. |
| Immigration custody? | ICE ODLS and ERO Newark | Updates can lag and some records are excluded. |
Camden County Release Facilities
Camden County’s facility map includes the adult county jail, a confidential juvenile setting, and three NJDOC residential community reintegration programs. The three RCRPs are correctional placements for people nearing release. A move to a Camden street address at Fletcher House, Garrett House, or Hope Hall does not by itself mean final discharge.
- Camden County Correctional Facility handles adult county custody, court-ordered release, county-term completion, and transfers.
- Camden County Juvenile Detention Center follows Family Court orders, and juvenile identities are generally confidential.
- Fletcher House is a male NJDOC educational, vocational, and work-release RCRP.
- Garrett House is a specialized women’s NJDOC residential community placement.
- Hope Hall is a male NJDOC correctional-treatment RCRP approaching community release.
NJDOC status, state release calculations, and State Parole Board records distinguish RCRP placement from parole or maximum discharge. Camden County has no currently operating state prison, federal prison, or dedicated ICE detention center identified in the research.
